See where Emiliano Martinez drew his world cup tattoo and what it means

Emiliano Martinez has shown off a brand new tattoo after winning the World Cup with Argentina.

The 30-year-old, who plies his trade with Aston Villa, played an integral role in his country’s World Cup triumph in Qatar.

In fact, it’s no exaggeration to suggest that Lionel Messi and the rest of his Argentina teammates probably wouldn’t have lifted the World Cup on December 18 if it wasn’t for their goalkeeper.

Martinez produced arguably the most important save in Argentina’s history in the dying seconds of extra-time against France.

Randal Kolo Muani looked almost certain to score after finding himself one-on-one with Martinez, but the French forward was denied by the Argentina ‘keeper’s outstretched left leg.

Martinez gets new tattoo to celebrate Argentina’s World Cup win

To celebrate Argentina’s first World Cup title since 1986, Martinez has got a new tattoo in the exact same position where he saved Kolo Muani’s late effort.

The tattoo of the World Cup trophy features three stars, each representing the years Argentina have won the trophy, along with the words: “Que la pasiĆ³n te lleve a la gloria” – which translates to “May passion lead you to glory” in English.
